Minerals and trace elements play a central role in many metabolic processes. Tap water lacks certain trace elements, which are removed in the course of conditioning drinking water. Along with hard water and pollutants, all trace elements are removed by reverse osmosis. In order to avoid deficiency symptoms, it is crucial to restore these trace elements to water prior to using it in an aquarium.
