We flew with SAS and picked up a kitten in the cabin using this bag. It was actually a few centimetres too big according to their website, but we took a chance and there were no issues at all with SAS. It has mesh on all sides but also sections where the kitten could "hide" and feel a bit safe. You can open it from both sides and from the top as well, plus it has a removable waterproof bottom and a small pocket on the side for storing things. It's soft but still has structure so it doesn't collapse.
