SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder

So I gave this 3 stars previously, as my fat boy was able to reach over the side and steal food as my old girl ate. I contacted Surefeed about this issue and they sent me an after market hood to add to the feeder. Problem solved, fat boy cant reach over the side any longer. As for squeezing in beside the old girl, the hood has also prevented that somehow. So pleased that my old girl can now have all the extra food she needs and can graze all day.

This large cat flap is perfect for my cats. They can come and go as they please until the curfew mode kicks in, they are in for the night. I had a minor issue when first installed called customer service, had a new one the next day. They even paid to return to defective one. Great service

Very disappointed that the unit as a whole is sooo big and bulky. The plastic bowl itself is 0.4litre but the whole unit it sits in is huge. But overall the product is a great idea, food is completely sealed so great to keep flies away in the summer, and does help keep food fresher longer. Would definitely recommend, but I wish SureFeed would make a more compact version, a smaller unit with a smaller bowl (closer to 0.2l). I have 6 ceramic food bowls down at one time (all 0.2l), and they don't take up very much floor space at all, but if I were to have six of these units down, they would take up way too much floor space! I also like to put a couple bowls up high, but these are much too bulky to be able to do that

This a quality product which was easy to fit and set up. We did have a bit of a problem in that we had metal within our door but having spoken to Sureflap customers service (who were really very good )sorted the problem out and is now working excellently for our elderly cat ..Would recommend this product.

I have two feeders that I been working for over a year and clean up easily. Absolutely the best feeders I've come across that help me keep track of food and help maintain moisture in the wet food.

I've loved this cat flap, until.... My nervous cat didn't mind the click noise it makes before unlocking (I've read some scared cats were put off by it). It's not suitable for large cats. My 5kg boy can just about fit so large breeds might struggle or won't fit. Just to give you an idea, my JRT can't fit through. It's a bit of a pain to clean. It's not letting draught through. And here's why I feel I was cheated by them saying it'll keep your indoor cats safe etc etc. I have another cat who's partially blind and not street wise so only gets supervised garden time daily. BUT even he could work that click noise is when it's his chance to tailgate my other cat out! I've also witnessed it to unlock when my cat (not allowed to exit, only enter) was by the flap from the inside and my dog (chip not set up) was outside. It unlocked when it wasn't meant to! We're now having to shut kitchen door when not at home to ensure our blind cat won't get out. this was the reason why we invested in this cat flap in first place... Also be aware it will unlock when battery is low (mine didn't beep to let me know in advance). Please, ensure you take extra precaution if it's dangerous for your indoor cat to escape. I've contacted manufacturers, but they refused to add caution regarding tailgaters nor stop advertising it as safe in multi cat household...

This is the third type of microchip flap that we've bought. The 1st one only worked when connected to mains power. The 2nd one would only open from the inside, so our cat was stuck outside. This cat flap keeps our little escape artist inside when it's locked. He had a bit of difficulty to start. The reader takes a short time to read the microchip before it opens the door. He is used to it now.

Very good product with several different modes. My two timid cats are very timid and they were scared to use the flap because of the click sound. Started off using non-microchip reading mode, then moved to maximum delay option. Now they use the flap happily without any hesitation. Highly recommended.

We had previously owned the standard sized SureFlap microchip cat flap for several years, but decided to purchase this larger model due to our small elderly arthritic cat having trouble squeezing through our previous flap comfortably. This flap is everything we could have hoped for, and our cat is so much more comfortable! It has an exceptional range of different modes, including 2 modes that extend the time before the flap locks again after opening, which is really useful for nervous cats.

Got 2 of these for my 2 cats who have FLUTD and IBD. Took 4 weeks to get them to use it properly. Considering the price of this feeder is a shame that the batteries are non-rechargeable. Furthermore, we should be able to choose the colour instead of spending more money on the coloured accessories. Also, one of my cats needs to lunge his head to activate the feeder due to the positioning of his chip. Not very comfortable for him as he needs to move fast to not get his head trapped by the door.

This cat flap does what it should. The manual makes installation and setup relatively simple. The flap opens for the right cats at the right time!

I bought this recently as we had an 'intruder' in the house a few times which was causing my kitten a lot of distress. Took a few days to get used to it, especially as the flap was smaller than the original flap but after about 4 or 5 days he was using it happily enough. He hasn't quite worked out that other cats can't get in but he is settling down and is less stressed than he was. I just hope he doesn't get too big for the hole as it would mean getting a new glazed panel with a bigger hole.

This is perfect for what I needed it for, it keeps out neighbours/stray cats whilst also giving my cat the freedom to come and go as he pleases, plus no more lost chips that you have to attach to collars!

I am so impressed! I acquired a Sureflap cat flap when I moved into my house two years ago and it has worked perfectly the whole time. Recently however I was woken at 1am to a cat fight and came downstairs to find a large ginger tom had gotten in and was stuck! Realised the cat flap had broken so following the online troubleshooter on the company website they diagnosed a problem they could resolve with a new part so at 3am on a Tuesday morning I got an automatic notification that they would send it out, which after another notification at 5pm the same afternoon, they did. It arrived the next day and was actually a complete replacement for the inside frame/door/latch. With their clear video tutorials it was easy to switch over and by 6pm on Wednesday it was as good as new and it didn't cost a penny! Efficient, effective and easy!

If you have a super greedy cat and a grazer cat like I do, this product is a must have in your household. I hesitated over the price for quite a while but there is nothing else like it out there. It is quite a big contraption but now I can feed my grazer cat and walk away knowing that the greedy cat will not be able to steal his food as soon as he can (it is very satisfying watching him try). The grazer cat will then be able to eat his food throughout the day as and when he pleases.

I first bought the SureFlap cat flap for my old flat, about 3 years ago. Previous to that I had spent a fortune on magnetic and then the petporte cat flaps. One of my cats, who likes to use his paws to open the door got himself stuck in both the magnetic and petporte ones, but never in the Sureflap. It's very well designed - the others led to break ins, but not the Sureflap. When I moved I bought another one for a double glazed door panel and it looks and works brilliantly. Highly recommend!

I purchased this so my elderly, thin cat could have free access to food without my fat boy eating it all. Took her just 2 weeks to work it, unfortunately fat boy quickly worked it out too. My old girl tolerates fat cat so they are both able to get under the chip reader together! Even if she isn't up to sharing, fat cat is tall enough to reach over the side plate and steal biscuits! So not ideal if you have cats that are friendly with each other or tall enough to reach over the sides.

Bit wary when I bought this item - for 2 large cats - but certainly did exactly what it says on the box. One of my cats not at all keen because of the loud click the catch makes but when re-set delay to maximum he was OK with it and over time I was able to reduce the time delay on the locking mechanism to default. Certainly reduced the stress levels in the house! Just moved so need to get another one!

Don't waste your money on a "magnet controlled" flap from a different manufacturer (clunky, unpredictable, badly designed). The SureFlap flap WORKS. The clicks did not put off my cat - she found the newness of the flap a little stiff at first. But she got it within 2 days. The 10 second delay option has been brilliant, giving her a chance to keep trying until the flap opens.

Now little miss greedy cannot eat all the food and little miss picky can eat throughout the day as she wishes Would suggest consider including batteries in pack

I've had the feeder for 2 years now.. they claim with Duracell batteries it'll last 6 months.. but honestly, it's more like 3 months. And they say the feeder has a lifespan of 6 years.. but really, it's 2 years because the motor has already given up. Also, it's really awkward for a Maine Coon to eat from it because the arch gets in the way a lot. So if you're still thinking about buying it.. DON'T do it for a big cat.

The cat flap opens from the inside without any issues. From outside to inside, it should react to the chip straight away and open. But it doesn’t do that. It opens with a big delay, so my cat won’t go from outside to inside. Unfortunately, I’m not happy with it.

Costs a bit, but you get something good in return! My cats needed a little time to get used to the feeders, but now it's great—no more eating from each other's bowls, and they can just eat whenever they want without the other cat joining in.

At first I had to practice a bit and it took a few days for my cats to figure it out, but now it works brilliantly and takes so much stress off all of us. I chose the larger flap. I have a Norwegian Forest Cat mixed with Maine Coon and apparently a purebred Maine Coon. In any case, I think the size is perfect for both of them and I’d definitely recommend going for the bigger flap if you have larger cats. And yes, the mechanism is actually a bit noisy.

For this price, I really expected it to have a rechargeable battery, but instead you still have to use batteries, and a size that no one ever has at home. The part that hangs over the tray, in my opinion, hangs very low. My cat doesn't dare go under it, even after weeks of trying. Really a shame for such an expensive tray.

Very satisfied. I have two cats that need special kibble, so this is ideal, but now I notice that sometimes it gets stuck. I've had it for 5 years now.

I've been using the machines for 3 months now. The bowls are too deep and the divided one (which I unfortunately need) is way too small. Otherwise, everything is plastic, the required batteries are from the last century – a rechargeable version would be much better – and one of them only works when it feels like it. At least each cat only eats the food meant for them... Price/performance is completely over the top.

For this price, I really expected it to have a rechargeable battery, but instead it runs on batteries—and not even a standard size, but one that hardly anyone has at home and is only sold in DIY stores. I also find it really disappointing that the chip section can't be adjusted in height. It hangs very low, so the cats have to really crouch down to reach the food. Unfortunately, mine just won't do that, even after weeks of trying. Such a shame :/

Kibble stays dry, pâté always moist. No more flies buzzing around, no more stealing each other's food. Brilliant.

Works just as described. All the cats got used to the feeders very quickly. All it took was putting their favourite pouch inside and letting them sniff it. They knew it was there, just had to figure out how to get to it. A couple of times they jumped when the lid opened, but their desire for their favourite pouch was stronger. There's no smell of food at all in the flat. I already have 3 feeders for cats on different diets (one tomcat on urinary, another tomcat on no special diet, and two cats on gastrointestinal).

Fails within a year or less. Sure will only replace it once, even if it breaks again after a few months. Look for another brand. It's a rip-off.

Cleaning is a nightmare, there's mould and you can't remove the side windows either. I paid 170 CHF for it, and it's definitely not worth it.

8 out of 10 times, the cats' chip isn't read, even though the batteries are brand new alkaline ones. The app is also useless, as updates are delayed by several hours. To be sure the cat can get in, you have to disable the lock and use it as a manual cat flap, which you might as well have bought for 100 kr.

We bought the bowls in December, and now the rubber seals are broken. I even cut myself while washing them. This is definitely not what we expected.

Overall, the device is a clever solution. As long as you don’t have a completely black cat. My cat is entirely black and apparently the sensor doesn’t recognise her, so she ends up sitting in front of a bowl that’s always closed. I’m sure this could be improved. We use the system without a microchip.

Easy to install. Works well. It's a shame there doesn't seem to be a LARGE version available.

The little door works well.. It almost completely lacks instructions for setting the opening and closing times.. It doesn't show whether the cat has gone through and whether it's inside or outside..

I've had the feeders for 2 years now and they work perfectly! I accidentally dropped one on the floor and it broke, but that was my fault. The batteries last a really long time, and the cats accepted the feeders straight away! Now my cat with the special diet can't steal the other cat's food anymore, and vice versa ;-) Best investment ever!
